We incise and drain abscesses and remove pus. Septic arthritis is surely an abscess in a joint and pus must be drained.
The exception is TB where I feel antibiotics alone can be effective if given early.
Too many joints are destroyed because pus is not drained in time. This gives lifelong morbidity.

Here, we usually treat our patients with 3rd generation cephalosporines for 3-4 weeks.
